In the south of Morocco, at the gates of the desert, the DRAA Valley was for years the point of departure and arrival of the great trans-Saharan caravans.
In the city of AGDZ and more precisely in the village of Asslim (peace), the CASBAH DES ARTS was built in the 17th century by the CAID TALB EL HASSAN. This fortified residence of the lord, isolated and located on a dominant position, expressed the authority of the CAID (representative of the sultan or the pasha).
After the death of the last caid “CAID ALI” IN 1956, this majestic fortress of ocher earth, threatened by bad weather, fell into ruins at the risk of disappearing forever from the Moroccan landscape and its history.
ABDELZACK AIT EL CAID (CAID’s grandson) and KAMAL EL KACIMI (director and film producer) have taken the decision to restore this unique heritage in an authentic way while respecting Berber architecture using local materials and the ancestral construction techniques of the “maälmin”.
These many terraces make this residence special, offering a breathtaking view of the imposing Kissane massif, the immensity of the palm grove and its gardens with contrasting colors.
LA CASBAH DES ARTS, offers 7 beautiful rooms with private bathroom in tadelack and 1 suite with living room thus combining the charm of the south and tranquility.
A cuisine with an unstoppable taste, a mixture of spices and local products in the pure tradition of typical Berber dishes will be served to you.
