It was thanks to the Moorish mosaic tradition that the Alhambra, near Granada in Spain, became one of the most famous palaces in the world.
br />Craftsmen already used at the time the technique of manually cut terracotta tiles called “Zellige”. This five-century-old technique is still alive and widely used in today’s Morocco. The old houses and palaces of Fez, Meknes, Tangier or Marrakech have inspired many architects and decorators around the world.
br />The Aït Manos workshop, of handmade ceramics, was created in 1994 with the mission to manufacture and supply these Moroccan mosaics to construction sites spread across the world.
br /> “Aït” means “tribe” in the Berber language, a language that comes from one of the two cultures of Morocco. “Manos” means “hands” those that are at the heart of any manual activity.
br />The idea we had when creating Aït Manos was to preserve tradition while innovating in order to supply foreign construction sites who cannot afford to bring in Moroccan craftsmen specialized in our unique crafts in the world.
br />Aït Manos makes it possible to use and quickly install Moroccan “zelliges” for any foreign project but also to install carved, hand-painted woodwork, traditional plasterwork and any other know-how resulting from artistic craftsmanship.
